CC Resolution 1984-004( RESOLUTION NO. 84-4
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING A NEW CITY
ATTORNEY.
The City Council of the City of La Quinta does hereby resolve
as follows:
SECTION 1. James Longtin is appointed City Attorney for the
City of La Quinta, effective February 1, 1984, to serve at the
pleasure of the City Council, as a regular employee of the City.
SECTION 2. His initial salary, benefits and other terms and
conditions of e?ployment shall be as outlined in Chapter 2.16 of
the Municipal Code, in Ordinance No. 47, and in that certain
letter to him dated January 6, 1984, a copy of which is, and shall
remain, on file in the office of the City Clerk.
SECTION 3. This Resolution supersedes Resolution No. 82-33
adopted on July 20, 1982.

Dear Mr. Longtin:
I was delighted to hear from City Council Member Fre Wo
that you have accepted the offer of employment from our
City to serve as City Attorney. I am sure you will find
La Quinta a very desirable place to work, and we look
forward to drawing on your expertise as yQu become a member
of our management team.
While the operational details of your service will be
detailed later, the following will be the general terms of
employment, as I understand they have been discussed between
yourself and our search committee:
1. You will start your position on February 1, 1984.
2. Your employment will be for one-quarter time, at a
salary of $1,344 per month.
3. You will serve at the pleasure of the City Council",
providing for a thirty day termination notice by
either party.
4. You will keep regular office hours at City Hall and
attend all City Council meetings and study sessions,
as well as other meetings when your services are
needed.
5. You will handle litigation issues for the City when
appropriate, and such special services will be at a
professional fee over and above your regular salary,
to be negotiated as issues arise.
6. Employee benefits, such as health insurance, will be
available to you.
I hope these terms represent what was negotiated between our
representatives and yourself and are now agreeable to you.
