77438 Chillon (Calle) DPR 523L (09/2013) Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-139 Date Constructed: 1958 UTM Zone: 11S, 563689 mE / 3724057 mN Neighborhood: The Cove Tract: Santa Carmelita Unit No 19; Recorded December 31, 1937, MB 19/34 Owner and Address: Bruce F. Fickett; 2317 Beach Avenue, Venice CA 90291 Updated Description: The subject property was constructed in 1958 in the La Quinta Cove neighborhood. It was designed by Walter S. White in 1956. CRM Tech described the property as a Modern style single-family residence in 2006. Urbana staff conclude that residence more specifically displays the characteristics of a Contemporary style residential property. The residence has a low pitch gable roof with open eaves and thick support beams at the gable peaks and ends. There are large fixed windows at the front elevation extending to the roof line. At the rear of the residence there are two sliding glass windows. The exterior is clad in stucco. The residence is surrounded by a high privacy wall making it difficult to observe all architectural details. The cross gable roof and the two of the sliding doors at the rear of the residence are extant. This residence was constructed at the same time as the adjoining properties at 53965 Avenida Obregon and 53960 Avenida Alvarado. Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934- 1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. While the dwelling is located within the proposed La Quinta Cove Historic District, it is a non-contributor due to its architectural style and date of construction. The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible under Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction and is not a representative example of a work designed by Walter S. White; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. Due to limited visibility during the current survey, the integrity of the dwelling could not be determined.
