79815 Westward Ho Drive DPR 523L (09/2013) Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-180 Date Constructed: 1961 UTM Zone: 11S, 567661 mE; 3730532 mN Neighborhood: Indian Springs Tract: TR 02190; Recorded February 28, 1961, MB 41/57 Owner and Address: McClelland Family Trust, Jane S McClelland; 606 E. Walnut Avenue, Willows CA 95988 Updated Description: The 79815 Westward Ho Drive residence was constructed in 1961 in the Indian Springs neighborhood. CRM Tech described the property as a Ranch style single-family residence in 2006. Urbana staff conclude that residence more specifically displays the characteristics of a Tract Ranch style residential property with Custom elements built by the Westward Ho and Bellwood Discount Corporation. The one-story residence with attached garage faces north from the south side of Westward Ho Drive. It a single-family dwelling with an asymmetrical façade and has an irregular floorplan atop a concrete foundation. The low-pitched hipped roof is topped with composition shingles and has a moderate eave overhang, boxed eaves, and two eyebrow dormers located on the west and east elevations. The exterior is clad in vertical board-and-batten siding painted in tan and the fenestration consists of aluminum sliding sash windows. The main entryway is recessed below the main roofline and is obscured by a wrought iron security gate. A concrete brick chimney is located on the rear (south) elevation. The attached garage is appended to the west elevation and features a hipped roof with an eyebrow dormer visible on the west elevation, a board and batten facade, and a white panel overhead door. There do not appear to be any significant alterations to the dwelling since the prior survey. Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934- 1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. It was one of the earliest homes built within the Indian Springs residential subdivision by the Westward Ho and Bellwood Discount Corporation, but the subdivision is not proposed as a historic district. The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible under Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. As the dwelling has not been substantially altered, this dwelling maintains integrity from the historic period.
