79945 Westward Ho Drive DPR 523L (09/2013) Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-183 Date Constructed: 1961 UTM Zone: 11S, 567800 mE; 3730530 mN Neighborhood: Indian Springs Tract: TR 02190; Recorded February 28, 1961, MB 41/57 Owner and Address: Cynthia Teasley; 79945 Westward Ho Drive, La Quinta CA 92253 Updated Description: The 79905 Westward Ho Drive residence was constructed in 1961 in the Indian Springs neighborhood. CRM Tech described the property as a Ranch style single-family residence in 2006. Urbana staff conclude that residence more specifically displays the characteristics of a Tract Ranch style residential property with Custom elements built by the Westward Ho and Bellwood Discount Corporation. The one-story residence with an attached garage faces north from the south side of Westward Ho Drive. The single-family dwelling has an asymmetrical facade and a low-profile L-shaped floorplan atop a concrete foundation. The low-pitched gable-on-hip roof is topped with wood shingles and has a moderate eave overhang, open eaves, exposed rafter tails, and a widows peak visible from the west elevation. The exterior is clad in a brick veneer painted off-white and the fenestration along the main (north) elevation consists of aluminum sliding sash and fixed windows. The front entryway is recessed below the main roofline and features a wood panel door painted in brown. The attached garage is located towards the far east end of the north elevation with an original wood door. During the current survey, the residence was partially obscured by vegetation. Based on what was visible, there does not appear to have been any alterations to the residence since the prior survey. The cross gable roof, the recessed entry, and brick exterior were visible and extant. Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934- 1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. It was one of the earliest homes built within the Indian Springs residential subdivision by the Westward Ho and Bellwood Discount Corporation, but the subdivision is not proposed as a historic district. The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible under Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. As the dwelling has not been substantially altered, this dwelling maintains integrity from the historic period.
