To: Planning Department of City of La Quinta Re: Security lights for the Plaza at Point Happy Sirs - At the Plaza at Point Happy, the site has been burglarized twice in the past 2 weeks. The first break in occurred 8/13/04, the second 8/31/04. From the first theft the carpenters and electricians lost @ $23,000 worth of tools. The Sheriff s were called out, did an investigation and filed it as case #LA 04229007. The second break in, netted the thieves about $3,000 in stolen goods. The electricians, the carpenters, and the Primus trailer were hit. Sheriffs again called out, did their investigation, filed it as case #LA04245002. (I have not, as yet, received their theft reports.) Each time, the thieves gained access by entering site from the north side of the project. They then used bolt cutters and arc welders to cut or burn the locks off of the storage bins. Unfortunately, the north side of the Plaza at Point Happy has no security lighting. The thieves are able to enter the site, and with no security sights in place, conduct the robbery without being seen. I have been in contact with Deputy Heather Olsen (Community Programs Director). Deputy Olsen strongly recommends that Primus gets security lights in place, as this is the best deterrent against future break ins. (She is also turning our two break ins over to their "Set Team", as well as putting us in their "Pass On" book.) In an effort to stop the theft at the Plaza at Point Happy, and upon Deputy Olsen's recommendation, Primus proposes to install 5 security lights on the 5 temporary power poles that run on the north of the site. These lights will be 70 watt high pressure sodium that will produce 6,300 lumens. They are @ 10"x20" in size, and will be mounted @ 18' up from the ground level. (See attached site map for locations) Thank you for your consideration of this matter. 40A4 Scott Sherrod Project Superintendent Cell phone- 760-285-4668 CORPORATE OFFICE PALM DESERT OFFICE 1 409 SOUTH 600 WEST, SUITE D 75-1 1 0 ST.
