Nearly a billion gallons of motor oil are used by Americans every year - and 350 million gallons of
oil end up polluting the environment because of improper disposal methods. Used motor oil is
often contaminated with lead (from gasoline), magnesium, copper, zine, PCB's and other heavy
metals which are picked up from engines. These heavy metals can contaminate our drinking water
and cause health problems. The Coachella Valley Association of Governments will be hosting a
series of used oil filter exchange events to encourage residents to recycle. These events are open to
all Coachella Valley residents.
