Dear Mr. Scott:
The City Council reviewed your request to install a temporary garden trailer at the Wal-Mart
facility on Highway 111 at their meeting of March 16, 1993. The City Council voted to deny
your request to put the trailer in the parking lot because they felt the trailer should be placed
indoors in the garden sales area of the Wal-Mart facility so that it will not disrupt customers
coming to the site.

SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM SCOTT CONSTRUCTION FOR APPROVAL OF A
TEMPORARY GARDEN ROOM DISPLAY TRAILER IN THE WAL-
MART PARKING LOT PER CHAPTER 5.37 OF THE LA QUINTA
MUNICIPAL CODE:

LOCATION: 78-950 HIGHWAY 111 (ONE ELEVEN LA QUINTA CENTER)
BACKGROUND:
On March 9, 1993, Staff received a request to install a temporary garden room display trailer
at the Wal-Mart parking lot (78-950 Highway 111, west of Adams Street). The trailer is 8' X
20'. The Applicant would like the trailer for an interim two week period, but would like the
option to bring the trailer back if it is successful. Mr. Scott has stated he is scheduled to place
the temporary trailer in Cathedral City after his debut in La Quinta. The written request of Mr.
Gregory Scott is attached. This type of trailer is currently being sold at the Home Base facility
in Rancho Mirage at Monterey Avenue and Interstate 10.
ANALYSIS:
Staff did not have a lot of time to review the case since it was brought in on March 9, 1993.
However, should the City Council wish to approve the use for a short period, we would
recommend the following conditions.
1. The trailer should be permitted for a short period of time not exceeding 30-days in this
calendar year. Each installation period shall not be less than two weeks, and the
Applicant shall notify Staff once the trailer has been installed.

2. All temporary signs or banners should be approved by the Planning and Development
Department: All signs should_ be attached to the trailer.
3. The trailer should be located within 200-feet of the Wal-Mart store and be placed so that
it will not block either a posted fire lane or two-way driveway aisle.. The location should
be approved'by the Planning anrd Development Department prior to its installation.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is at Council's pleasure on this. matter.
