A couple of months ago, I received a call from my title officer. She informed me that the lot I had purchased and the adjacent parcel had been merged back in 1993. After making several calls to the City of La Quinta and the County of Riverside I was informed that "Yes" the parcels had been merged by the City of La Quinta. However, the lot merger was considered invalid by the County Assessor, because you can not merge two lots if there are delinquent taxes. I am not sure how this mistake occurred, but was told by the City of LaQuinta that I needed a letter in writing from the County Assessor in order to proceed with having the lot merger determined invalid and the merger "removed". Enclosed is the letter I received from the County of Riverside stating that the two lots could not legally be merged. I would appreciate your immediate assistance in resolving this problem. Could you please call me and let me know what the procedure for remedying this problem, and how long it will take. The property has been in escrow and we are trying to close as soon as possible.
