The project consists of the development of a vacant lot, including construction of a main, house, a guest house, a swimming pool, and associated site improvements. On -site retention is not required per City of La Quinta or Madison Club requirements. However, the Owner desires to create a large depressed area at the west end of the property. An area drain system and PVC drain line connecting to the site area drain system and the storm drain in Ross Avenue is being provided in the depressed area to handle nuisance water and small storm events. This report was prepared to determine the time taken to infiltrate the runoff generated on the westerly portion of the site by the worst case, 100 -year storm that could potentially be stored in the depressed area if flows were to exceed the capacity of the drain line. In addition, an opening is being provided in the perimeter wall on the west side of the property as an emergency overflow outlet. DISCUSSION The drainage area tributary to the depressed area consists of 0.41 acres, as shown on the Hydrology Map. The Shortcut Synthetic Unit Hydrograph Method was used to determine the runoff volume for the 100- year., 1 hour, 3 hour, 6 hour, and 24 hour storms. Soil Group B was assumed. A 90% low loss rate percentage limit of storm rainfall was assumed. The 100 -yr, 3 hour storm generates the highest volume of runoff, being 1,711 c.f. The surface area of the bottom of the depressed area is 2,450 s.f. Using an infiltration rate of 0.5 inches per hour, the time taken for the basin to empty was calculated to be 16.8 hours, which is less than the 72 hours required. CONCLUSION The results of this study confirm the depressed area on the west side of the site is capable of retaining the runoff generated by the 100 -year, worst case (3 hour) storm.
