CC Resolution 1987-053^"5 RESOLUTION NO. 87-53
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA,
CALIFORNIA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE COLMAC BIOMASS-
FUELED ENERGY PLANT.
WHEREAS, Colmac Energy, Inc. has proposed a
biomass-fueled power project on the Cabazon Indian Reservation near
Mecca, California; and
WHEREAS, through a joint effort, Riverside County and
Coachella Valley Association of Governments have contracted with the
firm CH2M HILL" for a third-party environmental review of this
project; and
WHEREAS, the result of that review has identified many
deficiencies in the Draft Environment Impact Statement; and
WHEREAS, one of our most precious environmental
possessions here in the Coachella Valley has been our pristine air
quality and it is certainly our most fragile; and
WHEREAS, good quality water and clear, clean,
unpolluted air are absolutely essential to our health and to
Coachella Valley1s economic well-being; and
WHEREAS, the Colmac Biomass-Fueled Power Project
presents a clear certain and eminent danger to us all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council
of the City of La Quinta, does hereby express our strong and well
considered opposition to the approval of, the construction of, and
the subsequent operation of the proposed Colmac Biomass Power Plant
to be located here in Riverside County near Mecca on the Cabazon
Indian Reservation. And Further, that this power plant would not be
compatible with our current and project development trends and with
our air quality standards in this environmentally sensitive area.

September, 1987 by the following vote:
