CC Resolution 1988-119^ 7x RESOLUTION NO. 88-119 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING PROPOSITION 99. WHEREAS, on October 4, 1988, the American Cancer Society asked for City Council's endorsement and support of the California Health Initiative Proposition 99, on the November 8, 1988 ballot; and WHEREAS, this initiative, if passed, will increase the tax on cigarettes by 25 per pack, paid for by the tobacco distributor. These monies will be allocated to four different areas: 1) 45% Health care for people suffering from smoking related illnesses; 2) 20% for health education of very young children; 3) 5% research to cure lung cancer, heart disease and any other tabacco related illnesses and, 4) 5% to public resources to improve parks, protect fish and wildlife and fire prevention efforts. The remainign 25% is unallocated and will be allocated by the State Legislature to any one or all of the above categories. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of La Quinta, does hereby support the California Health Initiative'1 Proposition 99.
