A RESOL*ON OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA,
DECLARING ACCEPTANCE OF AGREEMENT TO SHARE COSTS OF STATE HIGHWAY
ELECTRICAL FACILITIES WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ThANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, State Highway ill has traffic signals and safety lighting as part of the
existing highway improvements; and
WHEREAS, the City and the State through Caltrans) have an existing agreement in
which costs are shared on an equal basis; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans currently pays all costs as they are incurred, and invoices the City
for 50% of said cost plus overhead at a later date; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans has reviewed their operating budget and has determined it is
possible to reduce expenses if the existing cost sharing method is revised; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans has prepared a new agreement that reflects the new cost sharing
method; and
WHEREAS, City Staff has reviewed the new cost sharing agreement and concurs it will
reduce City expenses and simplify budgeting.
NOW, ThEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby.
1. Declares the new cost sharing agreement proposed by Caltrans to be a worthy
cost saving innovation that benefits both the City and State, and the citizens that
we serve; and
2. Authorizes Mayor 3ohn Pena to execute the new cost sharing agreement.

AGRERMENT FOR SHARING COST OP STATE HIGHWAY
ELECTRICAL FACILITIES WITH THE CITY OP LA QUINTA
THIS AGREEMENT, made and executed in duplicate this day
of by and between the State of California,
acting by and through the Department of Transportation, hereina*ter
referred to as STATE" and the CITY of La Quinta referred to as
CITY".
WITNE8SETH:
AGREEMENT
This agreement shall supersede any previous AGREEMENT and/or
**NDKENTS thereto for sharing State incurred costs in the CITY with
the CITY.
ILECTRI CAL
Electrical facilities include flashing beacons, traffic signals,
traffic-signal systems1 safety lighting and sign lighting on the
STATE Highway system.
The cost of maintaining flashing beacons, traffic signals, traffic-
signal systems, safety lighting and sign lighting now in place at
the intersection of any State Highway Route and any City street shall
be the responsibility of the STATE as shown in Exhibit A.
ELECTRICAL ENERGY
The cost of electrical energy to operate flashing beacons, traffic
signals, *raffic-signal systems, safety lighting, and sign lighting
now in place at the intersection of any 8TATE Highway Route and any
CITY street shall be the responsibility of the CITY as shown in
Exhib*t A.
All energy to operate the facilities as shown on Exhibit A are to be
billed directly from the utility company to the CITY.
It is agreed that monthly billing for the utility-owned and maintained
lighting will be the responsibility of the CITY.
Exhibit A will be amended as necessary written by concurrence of both
parties to reflect changes to the system.

remain in full force and effect until amended or terminated.
The agreement as above may be amended or terminated at any time upon
mutual consent of the parties thereto. This agreement may also be
terminated by either party upon thirty 30) days notice to the other
party.
