A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA
QUINTA, CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF SUNLINE
TRANSIT AGENCY FOR DISCRETIONARY FUNDING BY THE FEDERAL
TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency provides public transit service in
the Coachella Valley and includes the municipality of La Quinta;
and
WHEREAS, La Quinta has a large population of transit dependent
residents including many senior, disabled and young teenagers; and
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency has given extraordinary assistance
to the elderly population through its reduced fare policies during
off-peak times and free fares on weekends as well as the
considerable outreach training programs provided through the Senior
Centers; and
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency has dedicated a portion of its
funding toward improving services to the handicapped through
paratransit services which support the Americans with Disabilities
Act; and
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency cannot guarantee the working
conditions of the wheelchair lifts due to the age of the vehicles;
and
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency requires new buses to ensure
accessible fixed route services; and
WHEREAS, SunLine Transit Agency has submitted an application to the
Federal Transit Administration requesting Section 3 Discretionary
funds to purchase new buses.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City of La Quinta, Riverside
County:
That the city of La Quinta supports the application of SunLine
Transit Agency for the award of discretionary Section 3 funding
from the Federal Transit Administration.
