A RESOLUTiON OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LA QUINTA SUPPORTING THE COACHELLA
VALLEY MOUNTAINS CONSERVANCY'S DESERT
MOUNTAINS LICENSE PLATE CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy **Conservancy**)
was established by the Legislature to acquire and hold, in perpetual Open Space,
mountainous lands surrounding the Coachella Valley and to provide for the public's
enjoyment of, and the enhancement of their recreational and educational experiences on those
lands in a manner consistent with the protection of these lands and their resource value; and,
WHEREAS, in accordance with Senate Bill 494, authored by Senator David
Kelly, and signed by Governor Wilson in November, 1993, the Coachella Valley Mountains
Conservancy, with the assistance of the Friends of the Desert Mountains, is authorized to
promote a special interest license plate, depicting the significant features of the Coachella
Valley Mountains; and,
WHEREAS, the proceeds from the sale of five thousand license plates will be
available to the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy in furtherance of the
Conservancy's purposes of desert mountains conservation and education; and,
*WHEREAS, the Friends of the Desert Mountains is a duly incorporated,
nonprofit organization in the Stafe of California, whose purpose is to support the activities of
the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy and protection of the desert mountains; and,
WHEREAS, the promotion of the Desert Mountains License Plate will further
the goals of protection of the significant mountainous lands in the Coachella Valley and
promote Coachella Valley's natural beauty and splendor.
NOW, ThEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of La Quinta, California is in full support of the Desert Mountains License Plate Campaign
and the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy
PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the La Quinta
City Council, held on this 20th day of September, 1994, by the following vote, to wit:

Mayor Pena
