SUBJECT: NOVEMBER 8, 1988 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
Attached, you will find the County Registrar of Voters'
Certificate of Election certifying to the City's General
Municipal Election held November 8, 1988 and setting forth the
results of that election.
The resolution calling the election set forth that the Council
candidate receiving the third highest number of Votes would
receive a two year term, with the other two receiving four year
terms. Joyce Bosworth will be receiving the two year term with
989 votes. Bill Rushworth received 1,005 votes and Dale
Bohnenberger received 1500.
John Pena will be seated as Mayor with 1,306 votes; whereas Bill
Hoyle received 798 and Dave Lutes received 588 votes.
The over-all voter turn-out was 72.1%.
With regard to the Transient Occupancy Tax measure, the Council
has previously discussed delaying the effective date of the
increase until possibly January 1, 1989.
The City Attorney and I have researched this matter and find
that by State Statute, the effective date is 10 days after the
vote is declared by the legislative body.
Therefore, the effective date cannot legally be delayed.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY OF LA QUINTA
ON THE 8Th DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1988, DECLARING THE RESULT
THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, a regular general municipal election was held and
conducted in the City of La Quinta, County of Riverside, State
of California, on Tuesday, the 8th day of November, 1988, as
required by law; and
WHEREAS, notice of said election was given in time, form
and manner as provided by law; that said election was conducted
as a consolidated election with the Statewide General Election;
and
WHEREAS, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters canvassed
the returns of said election and has certified the result to
this City Council, said results are received, attached and made
a part hereof as Exhibit A"; and
WHEREAS, that said regular general municipal election was
held for the purpose of electing the following officers of said
City as required by the laws relating to cities in the State
of California, to wit:
One 1) Mayor of the*City Council of said City for the full
term of two years;
Two 2) Members of the City Council of said City for the
full term of four years;
One 1) Member of the City Council of said City for the
term of two years.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the names of persons voted for at said
election for Mayor of the City Council of said City are as
follows:
