CC Resolution 1984-072) RESOLUTION NO. 84-72
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA,
CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING THE CLOSURE OF THE LA QUINTA BRANCH
OF THE PALM SPRINGS SAVINGS BANK.
WHEREAS, the people of La Quinta perceived the Palm Springs
Savings Bank as a major services institution in their community; and
WHEREAS, the branch of Palm Springs Savings Bank was the only
banking institution located conveniently for many residents of the
City of La Quinta; and
WHEREAS, the manager of the branch, Becky Kochell, is one of
the active leaders in the community and Treasurer of the City of
La Quinta; and
WHEREAS, the City of La Quinta deposited a major share of its
reserve in the Palm Springs Savings Bank; and
WHEREAS, the management of Palm Springs Savings Bank decided to
close the branch unexpectedly and with only one day's notice to the
people of La Quinta who utilize its services; and
WHEREAS, the Palm Springs Savings Bank's management has indicated
by this action its indifference to the needs of the people it serves;
and
WHEREAS, the management of the Palm Springs Savings Bank dismissed
the manager of the branch, Becky Kochell, a leader of the community of
La Quinta with no notice; and
WHEREAS, the management of the bank did not consult or inform the
advisory committee which was established for such purposes, or any
official, or any organization in/of the City of La Quinta.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of La Quinta withdraw
all its funds from the Palm Springs Savings Bank at the earliest
possible date without incurring a loss to the City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of La
Quinta express its extreme displeasure at this action, representing
a disregard for the needs of the people of the City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be presented
to the President and Chairman of the Board of Palm Springs Savings Bank.
