A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THAT THE
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE CHANGE THE MAILING
ADDRESSES OF ALL PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY OF
LA QUINTA TO BE LA QUINTA POST OFFICE ADDRESSES.
WEE~, the City of La Quinta, California, was incorporated
on May 1, 1982; ~d
WEEWAS, areas within the City of La Quinta have postal
delivery addresses with designSions of communities outside
of the City of La Quinta, specifically Palm Desert and
Indio: ~d
WHEEl, mailing addresses ~d city designations which differ
from each other cause signific~t confusion ~ong citizens ~d
visitors in a coEunity; and
WHERE,, the City of LaQuintarisks the loss of signific~t
sales tax Ed other t~ revenue through misallocation of
business registrations because of differences in mailing
addresses; and
WEE~, several business persons who would be adversely
affected by such confusion have requested a change in their
mailing addresses to the City of La Quinta.
NOW, TEEFOE, the City Council of the City of La Quinta
does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The United States Postal Service is requested
to change the mailing address designation for all property
within the City of La Quinta to carry the n~e of the City of
La Quinta.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to transmit copies
of this resolution to the U.S. Senators representing California,
the members of Congress representing La Quinta, the Postmaster
General, the M~agement SectionalCenter/Postmaster, the
Postmaster of the La Quinta Post Office, the Postmaster of the
Palm Desert Post Office and the Postmaster of the Indio Post
Office.
