AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA
ADDING CHAPTER 2.75 TO THE MUNICIPAL CODE
CREATING A VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARD
WHEREAS, at the August 3 and September 21, 1993 City Council meetings, the
Council was presented with and approved a program for the City entitled "La Quinta
Volunteer Effort"; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteer Advisory Board is a program advisory body which was
called for in the program handbook presented to the Council for approval on September
21, 1993; and
WHEREAS, La Quinta Municipal Code Chapter 2.06 covers only the general
provisions for boards and commissions that are not further defined in specific code
sections; and
WHEREAS, the attached Chapter 2.75 defines the rules regarding the Volunteer
Advisory Board, as a supplement to and/or further specific definition of the existing
Chapter 2.06.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL HEREBY FINDS AND ORDAINS
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The attached Chapter 2.75, Sections 2.75.010, 2.75.020, and 2.75.030
are adopted as Municipal Code Section 2.75.
Section 2. The Mayor has signed and the City Clerk attests to the City Council
of the City of La Quinta adopting Chapter 2.75 as presented on this day.

The foregoing Ordinance was approved and adopted at a meeting of the City Council held
on the 2ndday of November, 1993, by the following vote:

VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARD

2.75.010 General Rules Regarding Appointments and Terms
Except as set out below, see Chapter 2.06 for General Provisions.
The Volunteer Advisory Board (the "Board") is a standing board composed of
three (3) members from the public that are appointed by the City Council.
Background in volunteer services, human services, or some social service
experience is preferred. Background information may be requested and potential
candidates must agree to file an Application for a position on the Board for screening
purposes.
The Board Members will serve for three year staggered terms beginning on
January 1 of each year. Initially, one member will be appointed to a one (1) year term; one
member will be appointed to a two (2) year term; and a third member will be appointed to
a three (3) year term. These appointments will start their yearly calculations from January
1, 1994.
2.75.020 Board Meetings and Compensation
The Board will meet, at a maximum, once per month for the first twelve months of
the program's operation. Following the first twelve months, the Board will then meet
quarterly in the months of March, June, September, and December. The specific meeting
dates will be determined by the Board Members, and additional meetings may be called for
on an as needed basis. There is no compensation for membership on this Board.
2.75.030 Board Functions
The Board will annually elect a Chairperson at the first meeting held after January
1 of each year. The following are the functions of the Board:
1. Provide direction and guidance to the La Quinta Volunteer Effort program.
2. Advise, support, and recommend policies for the Volunteer Effort program.
3. Plan and recommend recognition events for volunteers.
The Board will report to the City Council after each meeting either in person,
through correspondence, or in the form of meeting minutes at a regular City Council
meeting.

on the 19th day of October, 1993 and was adopted at a regular meeting held on the 2nd day of
November, 1993 not being less than 5 days after date of introduction thereof.
I further certify that the foregoing ordinance was posted in three (3) places within the City of
La uinta as specified in a resolution of the City Council.
