AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA,
AMENDING TITLE 2.06 OF THE LA QUINTA MUNICIPAL CODE TO GIVE
THE CITY COUNCIL ABILITY TO EXTEND THE TERM OF ANY BOARD,
COMMISSION OR COMMITTEE MEMBER APPOINTMENT; AND
ELIMINATING TITLE 2.75 RELATING TO THE CITY'S VOLUNTEER
ADVISORY BOARD AND ADOPTING SAID ORDINANCE AS AN
URGENCY MEASURE
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.06 of the La Quinta Municipal Code (the "Code") sets forth
general rules relating to appointments, terms and vacancies of the City of La Quinta's ("City")
boards, commissions, and committees; and
WHEREAS, the City finds that it would be beneficial to the City and its residents for the
City Council to have the option to extend the term of any member of a board, commission, or
committee by taking such action should the need arise; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.75 of the Code sets forth the Volunteer Advisory Board which
defines its function as providing direction and guidance to the La Quinta volunteer effort
program; and
WHEREAS, the City has been informed that there is no necessity to continue the
Volunteer Advisory Board as a separate entity;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of La Quinta does ordain as follows:
Section 1. Amend Section 2.06.020 of the Code, General rules regarding
appointments, terms and vacancies, by adding the following sentence to subsection (A) :
"Any term for a board, commission or committee may be extended by action of the City
Council."
Section 2. Delete Chapter 2.75 of the Code, Volunteer Advisory Board.
Section 3. EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance is adopted as an urgency ordinance
pursuant to Government Code Section 36937(b) for the immediate preservation of the public
health, safety and welfare to ensure that there will be no gaps in the terms of Board and
Commission members and therefore, shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

Section 4. POSTING: The City Clerk shall cause this Ordinance to be posted in at
least three public places designated by resolution of the City Council, shall certify to the
adoption and posting of this Ordinance, and shall cause this Ordinance and its certification,
together with proof of posting to be entered into the Book of Ordinances of the City of La
Quinta.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, this 18th day of June, 1996 by the following
vote:
